Beezernotes Intro
Beezernotes is intended to be a no-nonsense, direct discussion about the greatest issue of the 21st Century: The world’s transition away from petroleum (Dinowatts) energy to sustainable alternatives.
The basics are pretty straightforward. Before petroleum energy, the world had something over 1 billion people. Today there are more than 6 billion people. We’re running out of petroleum. Now, how hard is that to understand?
Of course, that’s like observing girls are different than boys–true enough but not really all that helpful. Beezernotes will try to wisely illuminate the solution’s various parts. This will take the efforts of many Beezers.
Ah yes, what’s a Beezer? A Beezer is a person who is wise, but not all that patient. The word comes from combining “Geezer” and “Bastard.” Beezer. Fortunately, the world has plenty of Beezers and, just as fortunately, Beezers pretty much run the world.
Unfortunately, the challenge is huge–even for Beezers. The American journalist, poet and historian, Carl Sandburg tells the story of a white man and an Indian where the white man draws a small circle in the dirt, and then surrounds that circle with a larger one and says “The small circle is what the Indian knows, the larger circle is what the white man knows.” To which the Indian pointed to the circle of the earth’s distant horizon and replied “And this is what neither the Indian nor the white man knows.” That Indian was most certainly a Beezer. So was Carl Sandburg.
The energy alternatives are many: Wind, solar, biomass and nuclear to name a few. How to get there from where we are today involves lots of money, lots of labor and lots and lots of opportunity. Not to get there involves lots of pain. And just like petroleum, the time we all have is running out.
So, drop in from time to time. Post a note if you wish. Beezernotes is now begun and there’s much to do.
